Reading Your Email Online

You can read your e-mail online using Horde, SquirrelMail or RoundCube if your web hosting account allows this. These popular web mail applications allow you to read your e-mail, save them, keep an address book, and perform all of the other basic e-mail functions that you are used to.

There is little major difference between the three email readers.

Most people use Horde, Roundcube also works well, but Squirrelmail tends to be the fastest to load because of its very 'basic' interface. You can use any to read your email, however, note that saved addresses, calendar features or sent items will not transfer between the readers.

It is advisable to choose one and stick to it.

The main difference between web mail and offline e-mail applications, such as Eudora or Microsoft Outlook Express, is that all of these functions are performed online, rather than on your own computer. However, offline applications generally provide more features.

Webmail is optional. You can still use your favourite offline e-mail applications, if you prefer. You can even use a combination of web mail applications and another tool - you can check your e-mail online, perhaps when you're at work, and download your e-mail to your computer when you get home.

To read your e-mail online:

  1. Log in to the Eight28 Client Area using the details on the Eight28 website.
  2. In the section on the right side, headed, 'Your active products/ services' click on the domain name for the relevant hosting account.
Note: The hosting product must be 'active' in order to access email accounts.
  3. In the section headed 'Quick Shortcuts', click on the link for Email Accounts.
  4. All active email addresses on your hosting account will be listed, and you can click on the corresponding button to 'Check Email' in order to access the email for each account.
  5. Go to the following link (http://www.eight28.com:2095) and enter your email address you want to check and the password for that email address.
  6. You will now see 3 webmail applications, any of which will display your emails.
Note: You can also save this link as a bookmark.
  7. Click on the web application that you would like to use.
Note: You should always ensure to use the same application for your email as your data will be stored there.
  8. You are now in the webmail window for your e-mail address. Please refer to other topic links if you need more information about the web mail application you are using.
